My energy supplier has gone bust - what now?

Updated over 3 months ago

Most importantly, you won't lose your supply. The regulator Ofgem will appoint a new supplier to take over, and you'll usually be moved across to the new supplier's standard tariff.

Once this switch has happened, you should then be able to switch away from the new supplier without exit fees if the price isn't good enough, so make sure you do a comparison.

If you're in credit, that's protected too – the provider that takes over from your old supplier will pay this back (or use it on your account if you choose to stay with it).
